To NaBloPoMo or Not to NaBloPoMo

NaBloPoMo_November_smallI’ve been blogging for about three years now, so this is the third time I’ve been made aware of NaBloPoMo–National Blog Posting Month.

It’s always hard to decide whether or not to join.

First of all there’s the name. NaBloPoMo. It’s hard to take that seriously. Just saying it sounds like I’ve suddenly lost the ability to form meaningful words: Hey y’all, guess what? I’ve decided to join NaBloPoMo. And I’m doing this because I’ve BlaBliBoBleh. So I PoBoDo0Di and then I WooHooBooMoo.

Then there’s the commitment factor. I often go through phases where I write a post each day, anyway. But what if I don’t in November? I don’t like posting stuff just for the sake of posting. In general I hate committing my time to anything. You never know if something important might come up and then I might have to renege on my promise.

So I haven’t joined before.

But they got prizes! And a badge!

I could just post every day if that’s what I feel like doing, and if a day goes by that I don’t have anything to say, well, then I can just quit, right? NaNiNaNiBooBoo.

Except for the badge. By November 5 I would have to commit if I want the badge.

Okay, I’ll do it. I’m doing it already: I’m posting this just for sake of posting something, because I’m still resting from my six posts about the racist aspects of Zwarte Piet. Those were mentally grueling.

So this is a post to say that I’m writing every day this month. And I promise I’ll do my best to keep it meaningful at some level. Except for this one, that is.

Happy NaBloPoMo to all of YooHoo out ThehBlehMeh-Prrrrttff….

  2. You can do it! I’m doing it this year too, having managed last year to post something every day in November – it wasn’t always a work of literary genius (in fact I don’t think it ever was!) but it was fun trying.

I would love to know what you think, even about old posts.
