The Invaders Are Here: Bon Appetit!


wild pigA blogging friend made me aware of this article in the New York Times about eating invasive species such as feral pigs. Feral pigs are a problem here in Texas and it makes perfect sense to eat them. They’re free-ranging, organic, with no added hormones or antibiotics. So eat them invaders, y’all!

  1. Perhaps you’d also like to eat some of the invasive Python hanging around in the Everglades?

    Some say snake tastes like chicken. I have my doubts. :mrgreen:

      I don’t know. I’ve never heard of eating Python. Rattlesnakes are edible, but they don’t need to be eradicated.

  2. If they are free range and organic, not pumped full of chemicals and goodness knows what else (as the stuff they sell in supermarkets probably is) then I agree – why not?

      Exactly. I try to eat as little meat as possible–I aim to be a pescatarian–but if I could eat wild pigs, who haven’t been mistreated and pumped full of rubbish AND help the environment in the process, I definitely would.
